New award-winning Morgan State University CBEIS Building anchors north campus

The Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure Studies at Morgan State University was conceived as facility for an exchange of ideas, departments, and building methodology. James Posey Associates worked alongside architects Hord Coplan Macht, Inc. to design the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for the new 124,800 square-foot building, developed to house multiple design and engineering disciplines under one environmentally friendly roof. This project is pursuing USGBC LEED Gold certification, citing such sustainable design elements as the solar hot water heating system and the operable windows with override control of space conditioning equipment. The CBEIS building was presented with the AIA Baltimore Sustainability Award in the2012 Excellence in Design Awards, and received recognition as a USGBC Maryland Wintergreen Award nominee in 2013.
