Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream
Milken Family Foundation : Washington, DC
The Milken Family Foundation purchased the former Riggs National Bank headquarters, across from the U.S. Treasury on Pennsylvania Avenue, to establish a museum. This main building is a five-story structure and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Foundation also purchased several other buildings contiguous to the bank building to consolidate museum, event, conference, and office functions into a single complex within a historically significant group of buildings in the nation’s capital. JPA provided MEP/FP design and construction administration for this project, which included modernization, adaptive reuse, and cohesive connections between the individual buildings. JPA also helped in the design of site amenities, including an education center, conference/office spaces, a theater and modern classrooms, a broadcast studio, kitchens, dining areas, and health/wellness facilities. The project involved extensive facility surveys; documenting of existing conditions; replacement of aging HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and power distribution systems; and core and shell design for future fit-out.
