Smithsonian Institution - Various Projects

Smithsonian Institution: Washington, DC and New York, NY

JPA has served the Smithsonian Institution since 1987 under multiple professional service agreements, both as the prime consultant and as a member of architect-led design teams. In addition to every SI museum building located on the National Mall, JPA has worked at the National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute; Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum; the National Museum of the American Indian Cultural Resource Center; the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center; the Museum Support Center; and the Garber Preservation and Conservation Facility. Many projects required adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Section 106 Federal regulations in coordination with the Smithsonian’s Office of Historic Preservation. Some projects required presentation, including mock-up demonstrations, to the Commission of Fine Arts, the National Capital Planning Commission, and the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Review Board.
