Smithsonian Institution
Smithsonian Institution: Washington, DC
JPA has served the Smithsonian Institution (SI) since 1987, under multiple professional service agreements, both as the prime consultant and as a member of architect led design teams. In addition to every SI museum building located on the National Mall, JPA has worked at the National Zoological Park, Cooper-Hewitt Museum, National Museum of American Indian Cultural Resource Center, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Museum Support Center, and Garber Preservation and Conservation Facility. Many projects required adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Section 106 Federal regulations in coordination with the Smithsonian’s Office of Historic Preservation. Some projects required presentation, including mock-up demonstrations, to the Commission of Fine Arts, National Capital Planning Commission, and District of Columbia Historic Preservation Review Board.
