Cannon House Office Building Renewal
House Office Building: Washington, DC
The comprehensive infrastructure upgrade and total renewal of this 826,500-SF congressional office building is balancing historic preservation efforts with incorporating state-of-the-art systems and workplace standards. The Program of Requirements (POR) and design phases are complete and phased construction is underway, scheduled for a 2024 completion. Early phases included building utility infrastructure renewal, and planning for subsequent renovation of programmatic spaces. Design provided for uninterrupted utility support during construction phases in the completely occupied and operational facility. New utility infrastructure was carefully orchestrated to dovetail with available building pathways and existing building systems, minimizing disruption to occupants. System improvements were designed in accordance with federal energy consumption regulations and accessibility requirements. The building modernization also complies with applicable codes, standards and guidelines while enhancing safety and security, increasing adaptability and flexibility, integrating cutting edge technology, and reducing energy consumption.
