Dirksen Senate Office Building Modernization
Architect of the Capitol: Washington, DC
As a prime consultant to the owner, JPA led the design team for A/E improvements for a major phased-while-occupied modernization of this 700,000-SF U.S. Senate office building. In addition to housing the offices of 13 senators and their staff, 16 committee hearing rooms, and a 340-seat auditorium, the building also includes a cafeteria and kitchen, two dining halls to seat 1,000 persons, and a souvenir shop. This project marked the building’s first significant upgrade and infrastructure replacement since its construction in 1958. JPA was responsible for initial facility and systems assessment, planning and programming, and major A/E and MEP/FP design upgrades and replacements.
