Kuhn Hall Resiliency & Education Center
Fort Meade Alliance : Fort Meade, MD
In 2011, The Fort Meade Alliance (FMA) embarked on a significant partnership with the US Army and the Fort George G. Meade Garrison to establish access to resources for service personnel, their families, and civilians. Plans included renovation of Kuhn Hall on the installation and its conversion into the Education & Resiliency Center to serve as the hub of information, programming, and services for the Fort Meade community. It took 11 years of planning; a fundraising campaign; meticulous processing of an 800-item requirements list; and extensive collaboration with six garrison commanders, numerous on-post agencies, and community members to transform this historic facility into a modern Center.
The Center delivers on the five pillars of resiliency — emotional, physical, social, family and spiritual. Individuals and their families are able to take advantage of essential programs to help them with issues or concerns and manage the challenges they face. JPA provided MEP and construction phase services for this facility which provides on-site classes, counseling and events, and serves as a hub to connect individuals with services elsewhere on the post, with the military, and throughout the surrounding community. Services range from guidance counseling and transition efforts to mental health counseling, wellness programs, and financial planning. A premier benefit of this space is hosting education programs to support successful career placement and continuing education, along with expanding existing programs to spouses and broader audiences.
