Mellon Hall Renovations
St. John's College: Annapolis, MD
Mellon Hall has undergone a transformation re-establishing this historic, multi-purpose building as the academic, social, and creative heart of the Annapolis campus. The main academic building on the Annapolis campus, Mellon Hall stands out against a backdrop of colonial architecture, but this mid-century modernist building has its own historical significance: it was designed by famed architect Richard Neutra and is one of the few remaining Neutra creations on the East Coast. The original 2-story academic building included an observatory and planetarium; and housed a variety of academic, performing arts, administrative, and gathering spaces. This new, $13M, 3-story addition brought building area to 99,000-SF, providing more classrooms, labs, offices, sculpture studio, darkroom, teleconferencing, seminar center, and café. JPA provided MEP services for this project.
