Mellon Hall Renovations
St. John's College: Annapolis, MD
Mellon Hall has undergone a transformation, re-establishing this historic, multi-purpose building as the academic, social, and creative heart of the Annapolis campus. As the main academic building on campus, Mellon Hall stands out against a backdrop of colonial architecture, but it also has its own historical significance as a mid-century modern building. It was designed by famed architect Richard Neutra and is one of the few remaining Neutra creations on the East Coast. The original two-story academic building included an observatory and planetarium and housed a variety of academic, performing arts, administrative, and gathering spaces. This new $13M, three-story addition brought the total building area to 99,000-SF and provided additional classrooms, labs, and offices along with specialized spaces that include a sculpture studio, darkroom, seminar center, and café. JPA provided MEP design services for this project.
