16 S. Poppleton Street

University of Maryland: Baltimore, MD

In response to growing needs, UMB acquired the early 1900’s, 4-story historic masonry structure at 16 S. Poppleton Street, St. Peter’s School, as the home of their new Community Engagement Center. The project challenge was to preserve the facility’s historic nature while providing a needed resource to the community and University. The 21,000-SF interior renovation and 7,700-SF addition provides neighbors with resources to find jobs, safe places to learn and grow, adequate space for health and fitness programs, and opportunities to gather. Program for this $8M project included new MEP/FP (fire suppression) systems throughout, upgraded water service, water-cooled DX VAV HVAC system with AHUs at each floor level, and a rooftop cooling tower.
