Bancroft Hall Dormitory Complex Rehabilitation

U.S. Naval Academy: Annapolis, MD

JPA was the Engineer of Record for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the largest college dormitory complex in the country. JPA designed the replacement of utility infrastructure and all mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 1.5 million-SF structure was built in eleven interconnected wings starting in 1904, and houses the 4,200 member Brigade of Midshipmen. Eight dormitory towers and three historic ceremonial and assembly spaces comprising the center section are tied together by a 500,000-SF base containing an array of diverse support facilities, including dining halls, medical/dental offices, firing ranges, Midshipmen/Alumni retail shops, and administrative offices. The design and construction were accomplished in nine phases, over a 10-year period, and based on the initial concept study performed by the architect/engineer team.
