Court Renovations & Addition

Court was one of the oldest standing dormitories at Foxcroft, an experiential, college preparatory school for girls in the heart of Virginia’s horse country. This 4,000-SF historical piece of Foxcroft’s campus was no longer needed as a dormitory and was subsequently renovated and expanded to 16,350-SF to house the school’s administrative offices, including admission, institutional advancement, marketing and communications, the business office, the post office, and the school store.

A new geothermal-based mechanical system was provided for the project, delivering an energy-efficient solution that integrated seamlessly into the building’s historic fabric and physical constraints. The project connected the renovated and expanded building to the campus’s medium-voltage electrical system, with a new utility courtyard created within the adjacent library building to conceal the new electrical transformer and generator equipment. LED lighting was provided throughout the expanded building and sub-metering of major building systems was also implemented. Energy data was recorded and displayed on a new interactive energy dashboard, allowing students, staff, and visitors the opportunity to view real-time electrical, geothermal, and water performance data.
