Foxcroft School - The Court

Foxcroft School: Middleburg, VA

The “Court” is one of the oldest standing dormitories at the Foxcroft School, a small residential girls’ school located on 500 acres of rolling countryside in the heart of Virginia’s horse country. This well-loved, 3-story 14,000-SF historical piece of Foxcroft’s campus was no longer needed as a dormitory and was subsequently renovated and expanded to 16,350-SF to house the School’s Administrative offices, including Admissions, Development, Communications, the School Store, the Post Office, and the Business Office.

A new geothermal based variable refrigerant flow mechanical system was provided for the project, delivering an energy efficient solution which integrated seamlessly into the building’s historic fabric and physical constraints. The project connected the renovated and expanded building to the campus’s medium voltage electrical system, with a new utility courtyard created within the adjacent Library building to conceal the new electrical transformer and generator equipment. LED lighting was provided throughout and sub-metering of major building systems was implemented. Energy data was recorded and displayed at a new interactive Energy Dashboard, allowing students, staff, and visitors the opportunity to view real-time electrical, geothermal, and water performance data.
