Chadwick New Elementary School

Baltimore County Public Schools : Baltimore, MD

Following community and design team recommendations established during the feasibility study, the $40M 99,600-SF Chadwick Replacement Elementary School was constructed on the same site as the existing building. Operations of the existing school and construction of the new facilities, were completely separated with existing sidewalks maintained around the building to facilitate pedestrian access to the existing school.  Based on the County’s prototype concept, modifications were made to the exterior and entrance sequence to accommodate the existing site profile. The resulting design creates an environment which promotes learning and collaborative study, generates an attractive, aesthetically appealing facility in harmony with it’s natural environment, and provides recreational opportunities for the surrounding community. The replacement school provides an technologically advanced and energy efficient learning environment for both students and teachers. JPA provided engineering design and construction phase services for the building’s MEP/FP systems, including a ground-source geothermal heat pump system and other sustainable design features.
