Lorraine H. Whitlock Elementary School

JPA provided MEP/FP design and construction services for the $45M design-build renovation of this 1960s school along the Watts Creek Branch of the Anacostia River. Adding 21,000-SF to a 50,000-SF historic structure, the modernization included upgrades to current operations; replacement of an underutilized multi-purpose space with a new gym, library, cafeteria, and child development center; and extensive site improvements highlighting the school’s natural setting, including a south-facing outdoor terrace. This net zero energy-ready project is pursuing LEED Gold certification.
