Dundalk New Elementary School
Baltimore County Public Schools : Dundalk, MD
Accommodating 735 students, this new 99,600-SF elementary school represented a major step in revitalization the Dundalk community’s rich heritage. Opening for the start of the 20219-20 school year, the $32M replacement school became operational while new athletic fields were completed in the fall. The project focus was based on the school’s theme, “Celebrating tradition while moving forward”. To preserve the history of the 100-year-old school building, the design/construction teams partnered with the Historical Society to incorporate elements from the original school into the new facility. Design included reuse and restoration of the stone entry facade, auditorium proscenium, and brick chimney. Though the original school no longer exists, the memories made there will remain in the hearts of students, teachers, and the community which it impacted. JPA provided engineering and construction phase services for building MEP/FP design, including a ground-source geothermal system and other sustainable design features.
