Farquhar Middle School

Montgomery County Public Schools: Olney, MD

This new $31.2M, 135,600-SF middle school was designed and constructed adjacent to the existing school, allowing the facility to remain operational during construction. The architectural design incorporates the area’s rural character, including allowing the community use of the school’s cafeteria, media center and gym to encourage connection with the neighborhood. The site contains new athletic fields, a 120-space parking lot, parent drop-off loop, bus loop, tennis and basketball courts. Serving grades 6-8, the new 3-story facility was certified LEED Silver, with geothermal heating and cooling, vegetated green roof, outdoor learning courtyards and commons, daylight harvesting, rainwater collection, and porous paving. JPA provided MEP engineering and energy modeling services for this project.
