Tilden Middle School and Rock Terrace School

Montgomery County Public Schools: Rockville, MD

This project collocates Tilden Middle School and the Rock Terrace School into a 242,000-SF facility on the existing Tilden Center site in Rockville, MD. Each school will be separate and distinct with different exteriors, but they will connect through shared recreation and learning spaces. Tilden Middle school will occupy the three-story space, with Rock Terrace occupying the remaining two-story portion of the facility. All new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems were designed by JPA to support the replacement school.  Multiple condensing boilers and cooling towers serve the schools heat pump distribution loop, allowing for staged infrastructure operation and improved annual energy performance. Indoor and rooftop heat pump units provide space conditioning throughout both schools, with a series of dedicated outdoor air systems providing dehumidified ventilation airflow to each space. This project will have a LEED Silver certification level, with JPA providing all energy modeling to meet the project’s LEED goals.
