Tyler Heights Elementary School
Anne Arundel County Public Schools : Annapolis, MD
Nestled in the Annapolis, Maryland community, Tyler Heights Elementary School (THES) is a neighborhood school serving more than 450 students. Opening in 1962, the school had long outgrown its facilities, incorporating more than a dozen portable classrooms and sending pre-K classes to another campus. Listed in a 2015 facilities utilization study as among the top schools needing comprehensive update, THES is currently one of three County schools undergoing full renewal. For THES, a $27M, 88,000-SF phased-while-occupied revitalization approach was selected. Funding by the JumpStart Anne Arundel capital project financing program is facilitating fast-tracked construction and the renewed school will help relieve crowding while significantly updating aging infrastructure. JPA is providing engineering and construction services for MEP/FP system upgrades, along with addressing and eliminating long ongoing maintenance issues.
