Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park and Museum
Living Classrooms Foundation: Baltimore, MD
This $13M waterfront park and museum commemorate the famous abolitionist who fled from slavery in Baltimore’s Fells Point neighborhood, as well as the nation’s first African-American shipyard owner who worked nearby. JPA was involved in the conversion of this 1840s warehouse, which had suffered significant fire damage, into a museum that celebrates the contributions of African-Americans in the development of Baltimore’s maritime industry. JPA also provided MEP design for office and meeting space, a café, and a computer imaging area and woodshop where Living Classrooms students could design and build boats.
