Commercial Vehicle Inspection FacilitY
National Institutes of Health: Bethesda, MD
This facility houses the operations center for screening and inspection of all commercial vehicles seeking access to the NIH campus. It is one of three main components of the perimeter security plan implemented after 9/11 that also includes a perimeter fence and visitor center. Divided into two components, the operations area and a 5,400-SF support building, it operates 24 hours a day. Since K-9 screening is part of the inspection process, a dog kennel was designed with appropriate utilities and conditioning. The building also houses control and administrative space for police officers, and a police amenities area.
