Belcher Health Sciences Pavilion
Anne Arundel Medical Center: Annapolis, MD
Anne Arundel Medical Center embarked on expansion projects totaling $425 million, with a goal of nearly doubling the size of the suburban campus. This 240,000-SF medical office building was the first major building to be realized from the Facilities Master Plan. It is connected to two pavilions and a dedicated parking structure by enclosed conditioned walkways. It was designed to house physicians’ offices, outpatient services, and a hospital administrative suite. Fit-out included the medical center’s Health Sciences Institute on the top floor to provide space for physician and staff education with a 400-seat auditorium, lecture rooms, and classrooms. Other fit-out design included the Breast Center, a gift shop, café, comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation, and office space for diagnostic imaging, women’s care and obstetrics, orthopedic and sports medicine, and doctors’ suites.
A unique area within the building is the 5,000-SF Center for Simulation to Advance Innovation and Learning. The center has two simulator operating rooms, eleven surgical stations, and multiple high-tech medical mannequins for training. There are video links between the simulator operating rooms and AAMC main hospital’s operating rooms, and a training room where medical professionals can practice.
