TU in Northeastern Maryland (TUNE) : Bel Air, MD

In establishing a Towson University satellite campus at Harford Community College, this new, $18M academic facility helped to meet a growing demand in the area for bachelor and graduate degree programs. The 55,560-SF building was designed as a learning “garden” in response to the site’s rural landscape. Oriented for solar harvesting and shading, this LEED Silver Certified project is 2-stories at the east entry and 3-stories from the west. Social and learning spaces are housed beneath a terraced green roof and a rain screen system contributes to the high performance building. Program spaces include general use classrooms and offices for student services, administration, and faculty; atrium; computer classrooms, nursing and wet labs; 120-seat tiered auditorium; library services, reading room, and lounge for faculty and students; and retail and food services. JPA’s MEP scope featured normal/emergency power; lighting; DDC; HVAC; and specialty systems; daylighting controls; fire alarm and fire suppression; sound, voice, data, and security systems; independent controls zones; plumbing and piping.
