Sarah's Hope Transitional Housing Facility for Women & Children
Sarah's Hope Transitional Housing Facility: Baltimore, MD
Originally constructed as a school in 1931, the existing 3-story building underwent a conversion to provide transitional housing services for 200 families annually. The 38,000-SF building provides expanded space, doubled the shelter’s capacity to 150 beds, common living areas, improved staff and program spaces, re-designed laundry rooms; expanded kitchen and dining facilities; play rooms, nursery/day care center; nurses station; intake, computer, classroom, and meeting rooms. The $8M public-private funded project features upgraded water service; new exit with egress lighting and fire alarm system; modified electrical service; life cycle cost analysis resulting in a new, energy-efficient variable refrigerant flow HVAC system; new interior finishes and lighting fixtures, all of which met Baltimore City Green Building Standards.
