Commissioning (Cx)

Current industry trends require healthy, energy efficient, sustainable, and performance-based building environments. Accordingly, JPA is growing to meet these needs, offering comprehensive commissioning services to a growing number of projects across many of our project portfolios. Over the last decade, JPA has dedicated engineering staff and added specialists and engineers in energy simulation, sustainability, building performance, and building automation systems, creating Teams focused on providing this expertise. Recent Cx experience – both as owner-agents and Cx agents – has allowed JPA to gain the necessary skills to expand and provide value-based Cx services. Our Cx Team has the public and private sector qualifications and expertise to achieve results. Our Team blends years of proven project approach with hands-on review and problem-solving skills. As our industry evolves, JPA is poised to support building owners and architects to meet the challenges associated with energy efficiency, building performance and operations with services which include:

  • Lead Commissioning Process from Design Inception to Construction Completion
  • Develop Owner Project Requirements (OPR)
  • Perform MEP Design Review and Provide Commissioning-Related Commentary
  • Develop Functional Performance Testing Procedures and Contractor Checklists
  • Provide MEP Systems and Equipment Performance Testing
  • Perform Building Automation System (BAS) Functional Testing and Point-to-Point Verification
  • Support Owner BAS Training and Troubleshooting of BAS-Related Operational Issues
  • Prepare and Submit Commissioning-Based LEED, Green Globes, or Other Third-Party Rating System Documentation
  • Retro-Commissioning of Existing MEP Systems, including Energy Benchmarking and Post Occupancy Energy Modeling Simulations

Specialized Systems

Modern buildings require specialized systems to meet increased sustainability requirements and evolving building operations. In addition to meeting programmatic and functional building requirements, the MEP/FP design must balance occupant comfort, safety, and energy efficiency with building aesthetics and system maintainability. Our engineers take pride in their ability to design and integrate these systems into the building architecture and site without compromising the owner’s vision. Specialized systems that our engineers frequently design include:

  • Biological Containment
  • Geothermal Heat Exchange
  • Hazardous Exhaust
  • Medical Gases
  • Photovoltaics and On-site Power Generation
  • Pure Water, Reverse Osmosis & Animal Drinking Water Systems
  • Smoke Control
  • Special Environments & Clean Rooms
  • Streetscape & Site Lighting
  • Thermal Energy Storage
