Public Safety Headquarters

This new eight-story, 275,000-SF building houses the headquarters of the county’s police, fire, and rescue departments and the primary data center for the Department of Information Technology. The $104M building was designed to provide clear zones of publicly accessible areas and secure private areas for use by the facility staff.  A two- and three-story base structure contains publicly accessible areas for recruiting and testing, record storage, occupational health, training, media relations, and public information. The office tower rises five stories above the base structure, with office support areas for the fire and rescue and police departments, including a secure sally port, arms storage, and in-house custody interview areas.

The data center is housed on one level and served by various levels of redundancy. Infrastructure design for the data center space conditioning meets ANSI/TIA-942 Tier 3 requirements and is served by two redundant 250-ton air-cooled chillers for in-row cooling with hot-aisle containment. A new primary 13.2kV feeder serves the building, along with a second 13.2kV feeder for the data center. Switchgear and capacity components for power distribution to the data center have a minimum N+1 redundancy, and in some cases 2N or 2N+1. The new generator plant services the main building and the data center independently.
